Message I believe if you were to actually calculate it out you'd see that playing around with where you're placing that weight in relation to the axis of rotation WILL have an effect.

Of course, this would be different for every wheel/tire combo, and it would be ridiculous to try to figure out what is closest to where it needs to be.

Just having the same weight is not enough. In a ludicrous example, if your tires were 99% of the weight of the assembly, and your wheels 1%, the acceleration would suffer horribly.

All I'm saying is that none of the arguments here lead me to believe that any of us are qualified enough to prove the others wrong or right.

Run whatever tires and wheels you want; if you have problems, switch.
